Multi-park game day

We have games at two different parks:  UQP and MNP. Please be sure to check team assignments below for your daughter’s field location.

Double-header girls

Several players are out of town this weekend, so we have a few girls scheduled to play twice. The “DH” girls have a (1) [first game] or (2) [second game] indicator next to their names.

Uniforms

A reminder that girls should always have their alternate uniform with them in case of a color surprise or unusual situation. For the 3 PM game at UQP against Vestavia Hills, our opponent may be short-handed. If so, we’ll loan them players to keep numbers balanced. Girls should wear their blue uniforms for this game, but they should also bring their white shirts in case they need to play a shift for the Vestavia Hills team.

Weekly quiz

We post a quiz each week below the team assignments. Scroll past the roster table for quiz details.

Warm-up captains

Girls whose names are in italic print with a (C) indicator are warm-up captains. They are responsible for gathering their teammates and starting pre-game warm-up. Link:  warm-up ideas

Weekly quiz – game sense

You can win a treat after our Wednesday or Thursday practice if you can answer the following questions.

Attacking (we have the ball):

  1. Crowd the ball, or spread out?
  2. Go toward the player with the ball, or setup 5-10 steps away where she can see you, or setup 10-20 steps away where she can see you?
  3. Dribble into the nearest defender, or use changes of direction and speed to dribble to open space?
  4. Pass the ball so you don’t lose it, or pass to erase a defender, or pass to get out of trouble, or pass to make the grown-ups happy?
  5. You are playing left back. We are attacking on the right side of the field. What should you do? Stay back in case we lose the ball, or run toward the ball, or get open in space on the back side of the goal?

Defending (they have the ball):

  1. Crowd the ball, or spread out?
  2. Race back behind the ball (get “goal-side”), or jog back toward your own goal?
  3. Knock the ball away, or try to win the ball and keep it?
  4. Turn loose balls toward the crowd near our own goal, or toward open space, usually out wide?
  5. You are playing left back. The opponent is attacking on the other side of the field (near our right back). What should you do? Watch and hope the right back wins the ball, jog back while facing your own goal, or race back to the big box and turn your hips so you can see the field and also help in case the opponent gets past our right back?

Transition:

  • What’s the signal that we are attacking or defending?
