Summer 2018 Orientation Meetings

We’re trying something new this year. Instead of scheduling orientation meetings right before a 2-month break, we’ll schedule them 1-2 weeks before we get started with Junior Academy Team Camp in early August.

Late July update:  We get a yellow card for the execution of our summer orientation meeting plans. Changing the timetable from “after tryouts” to “before camp” brought a set of obstacles we didn’t anticipate. Live and learn!

We’ll have orientation meetings in early August, one at each park. We’ll review the Junior Academy Girls program and schedule, along with coach, player and parent expectations, guidelines and rules, and we’ll also have an open Q&A session.

Who should attend? Either or both parents. We normally welcome players for the early stages of the meeting, and then arrange for them to scrimmage for the rest of the meeting. But we’ve had to scrap the scrimmage plan this year, so we recommend adults only at this year’s meetings.

Dates

We’ve scheduled two orientation meetings:

  • Thursday, August 2, 6:00 – 7:00 PM at Metro North Park:  clubhouse meeting room on the right side of the building if available, otherwise we’ll meet behind the clubhouse (bring a portable chair in case we’re outdoors)
  • Saturday August 4, 12:00 – 1:00 PM at United Quest Park:  clubhouse conference room; enter the front door and take an immediate right

Parents are welcome to attend either session. Parents of 2nd year players are excused. (There aren’t any major changes of plans since last year.)

Schedule conflict?

If you have a conflict with your home park’s date, you’re welcome to attend the meeting at the other park. If you have a schedule conflict with both dates, we ask that you check the meeting agenda document and delve into each link. All of the details you need to know are either included in the agenda, or via links from the agenda. If you review the agenda and still have questions, please send them my way.

Agenda

Here’s our 2018 orientation meeting agenda, with links going into more details for most topics:

If the embedded presentation doesn’t work for you, the agenda is available in three file formats. The PowerPoint (Windows) and Keynote (Apple) files use slides with some animations. The PDF file has the same material, but without the slides format or animation.

If there’s a topic or question that isn’t covered in the agenda, please send to Ward. We’ll follow-up individually and also update our agenda to include the new item.
