“Fridays / July Days” optional practices (July 2021)

By | June 27, 2025

We’ll reprise last summer’s optional “Fridays / July Days” sessions.

We’ll look to reserve a field for optional Junior Academy Girls practice sessions each Friday morning in July. These would be “come if you can” events. If your daughter has already signed up to escort kittens on tours of the Georgia Aquarium, don’t change your plans!

Player availability poll:

We’ll post an availability poll on this page each weekend and then schedule players accordingly. Depending on player availability, we could have one, two or three sessions each Friday. (We want to keep the player:coach ratio lower than usual during the early days.)

Who plays when?

Friday, July 2:

We’ve reserved the Metro North Park TOPS field (our usual Metro practice field). We’ll meet at 9:00 AM and play until 10:30 AM. Girls who are set to play include Augustin, Brown, Chisholm, Fahrner, Hecht, Hoitink, Jackson, Jaillet, Lancaster, Michalke.

Weather alert: The Friday morning forecast (checked Tuesday afternoon) calls for mild temperatures (mid-70s) but a chance of scattered thunderstorms. Rain itself isn’t a show-stopper, but thunder / lightning would force us off the field and into our cars until storms clear the area.

If Friday’s weather is iffy, we’ll post an update on our Twitter account somewhere in the 7:30-8:00 AM range. You can check our Twitter account by opening this link in any web browser: https://twitter.com/nasajracadg. You don’t need a Twitter account of your own in order to check our Twitter feed.

About the sessions:

  • Girls should bring their soccer ball (we use size 3 balls at the under-8 level).
  • Bring plenty of water with ice, and make sure you place your water jug in a shaded area.
  • Girls can wear any soccer gear — it doesn’t have to be official NTH practice gear.
  • Shin guards are required, and should be worn under players’ socks.

We’ll start with “tag” related dribbling games, then transition into fast footwork (ball manipulation) activities, and then dribbling activities (ball control, changes of direction, changes of speed, plus 1-2 dribbling moves. We’ll finish each session with scrimmages.
