2017 Fall Finale recap: Saturday, November 18

By | November 11, 2017

We finished the fall 2017 season with our Fall Finale “Dutch Masters” tournament at the Metro North Park small turf field on Saturday, November 18th.

The Dutch Masters format is a series of mini games, with random team assignments — different rosters each game. Players earn points based on each game result:

  • 10 points for each play whose team won
  • 5 points for each player whose team tied
  • 2 points for each player whose team lost

We congratulate our top finishers: Anja, Shaina and older Isabella tied for 3rd place with 32 points each. Newer Isabella finished 2nd with 35 points. Amani finished 1st with a perfect score of 40 points! As our new Dutch Master, Amani earned the privilege of cutting our custom Fall Finale cookie cake, and enjoying the first piece.

We send thank yous to our guest referees:  Hailey, McKenna, Allyson, Abigail and Elizabeth. We thank Shea (Maysie’s mom) for providing party supplies (and the very important cake-cutting knife!). We thank Publix and their bakery artist for the beautiful and tasty custom cookie cake. And we also thank Mother Nature for the perfect soccer weather!

Game rules

  • The game starts with a Texas Draw. (No kickoffs.)
  • 3v3 format on 30×20 fields with small goals, no goalkeepers.
  • Each goal has a small “no play” box to discourage girls from acting like goalkeepers.
    • If a defensive player interferes with a ball in the “no play” box, it’s an automatic goal for the opponent.
    • If an attacking player interferes with a ball in the “no play” box, it’s an automatic goal kick for the opponent.
  • Restart after a goal:  player’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Missed shots:  The defending team can call “whack it, track it” and restart play with a new ball. A player has to call “whack it, track it”, and a player (same player or a teammate) has to call “new ball” before restarting with a dead ball. Restart:  player’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Goal kicks:  Opposing team players drop back to their own half. If a player wants to do a quick restart before the other players have retreated (such as a “whack it, track it” dribble-in), she can do so.
  • Other restarts:  defending players retreat 5 yards from the ball.
  • Corner kicks:  player’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Sideline restarts:  player’s choice of throw-in, pass or dribble.
