2017 NTH Adidas Cup medals!

What’s in the bag?

May 2017: Junior Academy Girls pose with their medals from the NTH Adidas Cup tournament. We’ll have a brief medal awards ceremony after the Tuesday, May 30 tryout session at Metro North Park. We’ll meet at the Junior Academy Girls tryout field around 7:10 PM (field assignments are still pending when we wrote this), present medals and take some group photos.

There are a few girls who aren’t available Tuesday;  look for Ward after the Wednesday or Thursday tryout and he’ll present your daughter with her medal. If your daughter will miss tryouts, we can present her medal at Academy Team Camp in August.

Sunday’s tournament games have been canceled due to waterlogged fields.

Update from tournament HQ, May 21, 6:30 AM:  United Quest Park is closed. Games will not be played. (Same status for the other parks with real grass fields.)

Update from tournament HQ, May 21, 9:00 AM:  We apologize for having to close our JJ Biello, OC Hubert, Noonday Front, Noonday back, Metro North, and United Quest venues today. Those field closures are for the entire day and no games will be played at any venue except Lake Point. Due to the amount of rain that fell overnight, the rain already received this morning and the forecast for additional rain to continue into the afternoon, the fields were deemed unplayable and unsafe for play. It is disappointing to be unable to finish out the event on the field. We are currently evaluating how to bring a close to the event for the age groups playing towards a championship. All of todays scheduled games will be marked as “rained out”. We will update everyone as soon as we have that pathway confirmed. We thank you for attending this years event and apologize once again that it could not be played to its conclusion.

Update from tournament HQ, May 21, 10:00 AM:  We will be determining champions and finalists for this years Adidas Cup for the U8 – U14 divisions. We will use the standings after the two games played yesterday to determine the Champions and Finalists. The tie breakers will be used where appropriate. As a reminder those tie breakers are:

  1. Most Points
  2. Head to Head
  3. Goal Differential (total goals scored minus goals scored against)  (Maximum of +3 or -3 per match)
  4. Least goals allowed

If these tie breakers do not provide a clear winner, we will declare co-champions in those instances.

We will also be providing partial refunds for the missed games on Sunday. Please provide us with some time to work through the brackets and determine the champions and finalists as well as getting the refunds processed.

We are midway through the NTH Adidas Cup tournament. Here’s a quick Saturday recap and a Sunday preview for each team. Link:  Sunday weather updates

NTH-Tophat North 10 Brian

This is our youngest group, consisting of girls with 2010 birthdates. They are a U7 team playing against mixed U7/U8 teams (4v4 format). They lost a tough one in their first game, and then made a comeback to win their second game.

Scores of other games in our bracket have not yet been posted, so we do not yet know if team Brian has a chance to make it to the championship game. (Odds are that a win Sunday morning would qualify team Brian for the championship game, but we don’t have hard facts to have a definitive answer yet.)

NTH-Tophat North 09 Horan

Team Horan is a U8 team playing in the U8 Junior Academy division (4v4 format). They lost their first game, then came on strong in the second half of their second game to pull out an exciting win.

Team Horan is tied for second place in their division, but they hold the tie-breaker over the other second place team. They will advance to the championship game with a win Sunday morning. Pending other results, team Horan could still advance with a tie, and potentially even with a loss (where we’d need help with tie-breakers).

NTH-Tophat North 09 Sonnett

Team Sonnett is a U8 team playing in a lower U9 Academy division (7v7 format). They got off to the best possible start, scoring in the first 10 seconds of their first game. They won the first game, and then came from behind to tie their second game.

Team Sonnett is tied for first place in their division, and will advance to the championship game with a win or a tie Sunday morning. Pending other game results, team Sonnett could potentially advance even with a loss if tie-breakers fall their way.

Sunday schedule

A reminder that girls should arrive 30 minutes before kickoff time for warm-up and team check-in. Team Sonnett and team Brian may need to start their own warm-up since coaches will be finishing other games on other fields and could be a few minutes late for warm-up.

Junior Academy Girls weather communication channels:

We’ll update our own Junior Academy Girls Twitter account and hot-line when possible, but our Junior Academy channels could lag the official tournament weather communication channels if changes are posted while we’re driving or coaching.
