2020 Fall Finale recap: Saturday, November 21

By | November 14, 2020

We finished our fall 2020 season on Saturday, November 21st with our Fall Finale “Dutch Masters” tournament at the Metro North Park TOPS field.

The Dutch Masters format is a series of mini games, with random team assignments — different rosters each game. Players earn points based on each game result:

  • 10 points for each player whose team won
  • 5 points for each player whose team tied
  • 2 points for each player whose team lost

Results:

For the first time ever, we had a tie for first place. Ellery and Vivienne both maxed out with 40 points after four games. We also had a tie for 3rd place, with Addison and Maddie E both finishing with 35 points. The top finishers won Adidas skill balls. (Somehow our media specialist failed to get a photo of the top finishers and their awards.)

Thank yous!

Thanks as always to the girls for their enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Thanks also to their parents and relatives, who encourage and cheer, and make for a fun environment.

We thank our special guest referees, Junior Academy Girls alums Annie and Rachel. They both played in the 2017 Fall Finale. And they are both in the Junior Academy Girls record book. Annie spent five seasons (2.5 years) with us. (No other player has ever had more than four seasons). And Rachel is the first player to ever babysit our mascot LiCec. (She made a necklace for him.)

Big thanks also to our crew of party elves: Carson’s mom, Ellery’s mom, Gianna’s mom, Hayden’s mom, Lekha’s mom, Maddie’s mom and Taylor’s mom. COVID-19 restrictions led us to skip our usual cookie cake, but our party elves had the best work-around: individually packaged cupcakes. Yes! The cupcakes went so fast that our only photo is of the one cupcake that fell to the ground. Twice. It still tasted great!

Game rules:

  • Each game starts with a Texas Draw. (No kickoffs.)
  • 4v4 or 5v5 format with small goals.
  • Restart after a goal:  defending team’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Missed shots (not including deflections):  The defending team can call “whack it, track it” and restart play with a new ball. A player has to call “whack it, track it”, and a player (same player or a teammate) has to call “new ball” before restarting with a dead ball where the earlier ball went out of play. Restart:  player’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Goal kicks:  Opposing team players drop back into their own half of the field. If a player wants to do a quick restart before the other players have retreated (such as a “whack it, track it” dribble-in), she can do so.
  • Other restarts:  defending players retreat 5 yards from the ball.
  • Corner kicks:  player’s choice of pass or dribble.
  • Sideline restarts:  player’s choice of throw-in, pass or dribble.
